Advent/Christmas Reading 2018

Over the month of December most of my reading will focus on Advent or Christmas.  I find it can help me focus on something other than our cultural celebrations.  It also helps me to reflect on my faith, grow in my faith, and equip me for when I do ministry during this season.  So below are my books to read over the coming month:

FIrst, I always do the Biola University Advent Project that mixes music, art, scripture, and reflections on a daily basis.  Such a wonderful resource and I highly recommend it.    b

Here are some of the books I’m considering:

Advent: The Once & Future Coming of Jesus Christ by Felming Rutledge – this book, in my understanding, is a bit more academic but I wonderful reflection on Advent, it’s history, it’s meaning, and it’s impact on today.  Looking forward to diving into this.

Hidden Christmas: The Surprising Truth Behind the Birth of Christ – by Tim Keller – a little less academic but good reflections.

Touching Wonder – John Blase – a retelling of the Christmas story in a novelized fashion.

The Christmas Candle – Max Lucado – a good fiction story (I hope!) about Christmas

Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Christmas Sermons – Deitrich Bonhoeffer – I’ve been wanting to read more Bonhoeffer but haven’t gotten to it… this seems like a good place to start.

the Paperbag Christmas – Kevin Milne – A Christmas novel.

Not sure if I’ll get more than that read during this busy season leading up to Christmas so here are a couple other books I’m considering:

Because of Bethlehem: Love Is Born, Hope Is Here
The Women of Christmas: Experience the Season Afresh with Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna
